Twist weave is a basketry technique used in many forms and with many fibres both soft and hard. This workshop uses a variety of natural fibres collected locally, to create a unique basket dictated by the moods of the materials. Fibres may include (depending on my stock at the time) Bangalow Palm, Coccus Palm, Banana, Lomandra spp. , Monstera sheath, cane.

Coiling techniques are used around the world in many different cultures. Paula’s coil workshops share commonly used coiling stitches using mainly Bangalow Palm inflorescence, hand-dyed and paper raffia although other materials may be incorporated into the workshops.

Coil Basket workshops: Min age 11yrs 4 hrs @ $125/participant.

Come along and design your very own woven earrings or pendant. You will learn widely used coiling basketry using natural and hand-dyed raffia, and sterling silver jewellery findings to create your own individual piece(s).

Earring workshops: Min age 14yrs 2.5hrs @ $75/participant

In an Alternate Weave workshop, participants use Coccus Palm and vibrant raffia to craft small, whimsical sea creatures—tiny fish, curling octopuses... The workshop typically begins with a grounding introduction to the fibers: how to soften palm strands, blend raffia colors, and build simple armatures to support more sculptural shapes.

The process is meditative, tactile, and delightfully intuitive, inviting participants of all skill levels to explore the playful side of fiber art. By the end, each maker has not only a unique woven creature but also a deeper appreciation for how natural materials and imaginative techniques can bring tiny worlds to life.

Alternate Weave Workshops: Min age 7yrs 2hrs @ $65/participant.

Palm sheaths are unique to each palm species in size and texture. During this workshop, the participant will learn basic stitching techniques using hand-dyed raffia and Golden Cane Palm sheaths to create small sheath planters.

Palm sheath workshops: Min age 11yrs 1.5 hrs @ $50/participant

This workshop is designed to introduce basic coiling stitching techniques to young ones however it is open to all ages. We use Palmyra Palm raffia as the core and a variety of coloured paper raffia as the weaver.
